Mark A. Aitken
President
Mark Aitken was promoted from Vice President to Senior Vice President of Advanced Technology in August 2019, responsible for the Company’s development and deployment of next-gen technologies such as ATSC 3.0 as well as various 5G initiatives.
Mr. Aitken joined Sinclair Broadcast Group in April of 1999. He served as Vice President of Advanced Technology starting in July 2011 and prior to that, he served as Director of Advanced Technology. While at Sinclair, Mr. Aitken has become a board member for Saankhya Labs (an Indian-based chip designer and leader in SDR and SDN technologies), President of ONE Media (Sinclair’s Innovations group), and is actively engaged in many industry organizations. He currently serves as a member of the Board for the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) as well as the Board of the Advanced Television Broadcast Alliance (ATBA).
Mr. Aitken is the author of many papers dealing with innovative RF product developments, advanced digital broadcast systems, and design-implementation strategies, and holds patents for various RF devices and Next Gen systems. Prior to joining Sinclair, Mr. Aitken had already accrued 25 years of industry experience as both a consultant and engineer. Mr. Aitken began his career as an engineer for COMARK, having now contributed to the broadcast industry for 45 years.
Mr. Aitken is a member of the Association of Federal Communications Consulting Engineers (AFCCE), the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and the Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers (SMPTE). As well, he is a member of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) TV Technology Committee which is focused on the broader technical issues of our industry.
He is a recipient of several prestigious industry awards including the 2008 “Broadcasting and Cable” Technology Leadership Award, 2013 recipient of the ATSC “Bernard Lechner Outstanding Contributor Award”, 2018 awardee of “Future’s” Industry Innovator Award, the 2018 NAB Television Engineering Achievement Award, and the 2020 TVOT (TV of Tomorrow) Leadership award.
So Vang
Vice President For Emerging Technologies
So Vang is the company’s Vice President for Emerging Technologies. He is responsible for engineering elements of our overall deployment of Next Generation broadcasting and related technologies. He has direct oversight of the ONE Media Labs and is an integral part of the company’s tactical decisions on the deployment of current broadcast systems and platforms, including new business use cases.
Prior to joining ONE Media Technologies, Mr. Vang was the Vice President of Advanced Technology at the National Association of Broadcasters, leading the strategy and technology development to drive the successful deployment of the ATSC 3.0 interactive platform. He was also a key facilitator with broadcasters, consumer electronics companies, and broadcast equipment vendors to support the launch of the NextGen broadcast system across the country. Specifically, among his accomplishments, Mr. Vang managed the development of the first NextGen TV Home Gateway; developed and demonstrated technology and business cases for advanced targeted advertising, usage measurement, and data analytics; developed and managed an interoperability testing program to support the Next Gen TV ecosystem; and helped to develop a conformance test suite and logo program for Next Gen TV products. Prior to working at the NAB, Mr. Vang was Vice President of Advanced Media Platforms at CableLabs, responsible for directing and managing the OpenCable project, an initiative of the cable television industry.
Matthew Goldman
Vice President, Strategic and Technical Initiatives
Matthew Goldman is the Vice President of Strategic and Technical Initiatives at ONE Media Technologies. In this role, he leads the implementation, expansion, and support of advanced operational technologies, including High Dynamic Range Video (HDR), and oversees conformance testing and operational handoff processes for ATSC 3.0 NextGen Broadcasting. Goldman joined Sinclair in 2021 as Senior Director of Media Engineering and Architecture, bringing over 30 years of experience in digital television development. His past contributions include playing a pivotal role in the creation of the MPEG-2 Systems standard with the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) in the 1990s and co-developing the Program and System Information Protocol for the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC). He is recognized as an industry pioneer, having developed the broadcasting industry’s first compressed-domain program splicer in the mid-2000s. A recipient of multiple Technology & Engineering Emmy® Awards, Goldman has also contributed significantly to the NAB Engineering Handbook and published work in IEEE Proceedings and the SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal. Goldman holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and has authored numerous patents related to digital video transport. He is a SMPTE Fellow and former President, a senior member of the IEEE, and an inductee of the Academy of Digital Television Pioneers. He also currently serves as Chairperson of the North American Broadcasters Association Technical Committee.
Sesh Simha
Vice President – Advanced Technology
Sesh Simha is the Company’s Vice President of Advanced Technology. Mr. Simha manages ONE Media’s and Sinclair’s participation in the standardization and productization of ATSC 3.0 as a 5G broadcast solution in the global mobile ecosystem.
He oversees the Company’s activities in India, a market with over a billion mobile connections, and which is critical to the success of realizing the convergence of ATSC 3.0 broadcast and 5G broadband. These include software-defined radio chipset development, 5G core development, live proofs-of-concept, and engagement with government, carriers, broadcasters, and manufacturers to promote the benefits of direct-to-mobile use cases. A large part of these activities is undertaken in partnership with Saankhya Labs (www.saankhyalabs.com).
Following 35 years of experience in the satellite, broadband and media verticals, Mr. Simha joined ONE Media in August 2016 as its Sr. Director for Advanced Projects. He managed the introduction of new products and services at SES, Teleglobe, INTELSAT and Hughes Network Systems. He managed two Direct to Mobile broadcast trials – DVB-H and ATSC-MH. He is well respected as a professional advisor, educator and speaker in the spectrum, television, telecom, software, wireless and satellite communications industries. He is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and has a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan.
