NextGen Broadcast, or ATSC 3.0, sets the stage for a dramatically improved viewer experience for viewers who upgrade their equipment. Picture quality using ATSC 1.0 – while considered advanced when first introduced – pales in comparison with the quality NextGen Broadcast enables.
Using the NextGen Broadcast signal, a broadcaster can transmit stunning images in 4K enhanced by Advanced HDR by Technicolor to create more lifelike pictures and a better viewer experience. NextGen Broadcast also expands broadcasters’ ability to offer additional content using Broadcast Enabled Streaming Television (BEST) channels, which are listed in the over-the-air channel guide just like over-the-air channels, and provide viewers with seamless access to content delivered over broadband.
This demonstration shows the difference in quality between a typical ATSC 1.0 signal today and the full potential of the Next Gen Broadcast signal when broadcasters are able to complete the transition to the new standard.
Consumers will only be able to experience everything NextGen Broadcast has to offer with an ATSC 3.0-compatible television set bearing the “NEXTGEN TV” logo.
